Ways to Demonstrate Employee Appreciation

Kevin Gardner
As a company owner or supervisor, you know that dependable employees are the building block to your organization’s success. Find ways to show your appreciation for your all-stars to reward their talent, attract similarly diligent workers and keep them all loyal for years to come.

Put It in Writing

Recognize staff for a job well done with a letter or plaque that they can keep as a reminder of the accolades. Show employee appreciation by naming the worker, detailing her recent accomplishments and expressing how much she is valued by the company. You can also distinguish staff members on a plaque with nameplates where team members and clients can see it.

Offer Perks

Give staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty employee perks as rewards for their efforts. Consider such rewards as monthly memberships to a local gym where they can workout at lunch, scholarships for continuing education classes if they wish to learn a new skill or go back to school during their downtime to work on an advanced degree.

Give Them a Direct Line

If an employee has been a stand-out that consistently acts responsibly and always upholds the firm’s values, recognize him with an open line to management and team leaders. Offer him regular one-on-one meetings with supervisors where he can discuss office politics, make suggestions about current tasks or ask questions about future projects.
Give him a glimpse of the company’s future plans before they’re discussed with the rest of the staff. These interactions may also reveal those who are capable of advancing in the company—use the sessions to gauge their future plans and discuss possible promotions that will keep them loyal to the organization throughout their career.

Host a Lunch

If you have several workers that you’d like to recognize for their superior skills and dedication, host a lunch in their honor. Go offsite for the afternoon, enjoy a meal together and hold a small ceremony where each employee is given the spotlight.

Show Your Appreciation!

Even if it’s not Employee Appreciation Day, show your best staff members how much you value them with gestures that reveal them as the role models they are. Creative rewards will ensure they stay connected to the team, remain loyal to the company and feel truly appreciated.
