Staying Calm and Peaceful at Work

Carol Evenson
According to the American Psychological Association, the majority of working adults feel stressed at work, and approximately 65% of employees in the U.S. say work is a primary factor in their overall stress levels. While it may be impossible to completely eradicate workplace anxiety there are things you can do to help minimize it.

Meditation in the Morning

Meditating for even just five minutes in the morning can help you attain a greater sense of overall inner peace. Meditation quiets the mind and allows you to get a break from all those thoughts racing through your head. Taking a few moments to purposefully slow down and focus on your breathing allows you to center yourself before a long day in the office.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an ancient healing modality that involves breathing in the scent of essential oils. Practitioners believe that stimulating your smell receptors can send messages to your nervous system. Different scents have specific healing properties. Copaiba oil is a type of healing essential oil that can help relieve feelings of anxiousness.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 1 in every 3 adults don't get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation is a common problem for working professionals and it causes fatigue and cognitive deficiencies. Getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night can help you approach each day well rested, alert and ready for what gets thrown at you.

Stay Calm and Make a Plan

It’s easy to get worked up when unexpected things get thrown at you out of nowhere. The best thing you can do when you start feeling anxious is to stay calm and make a plan. Figure out what needs to be done and write out the steps needed to get there.
